The Best of the Best

The Orange Bowl Committee selects a few individuals each year into its prestigious Orange Bowl Hall of Fame presented by AutoNation. With nine decades of tradition, these men typify the Orange Bowl’s history. The incoming class is officially recognized during the pregame festivities prior to the Capital One Orange Bowl.

2024 Hall Of Fame Inductees

MATT LEINART

QUARTERBACK, USC
ORANGE BOWL: 2005

Matt Leinart earned MVP honors in the 2005 Orange Bowl by throwing for 332 yards and five touchdowns, leading USC to a dominant 55-19 win over Oklahoma for the BCS National Championship. Leinart’s five touchdown passes set a then-Orange Bowl record, and his performance helped USC break open the game early, building a 28-7 halftime lead. Leinart’s precision and poise kept Oklahoma’s defense on its heels, as he connected on deep passes, including a 54-yard strike, ensuring USC’s victory. His standout performance also capped an undefeated season for the Trojans, securing their second consecutive national title and a No. 1 finish in the AP Poll.

URBAN MEYER

HEAD COACH, UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA & OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY
ORANGE BOWL: 2009, 2014

Urban Meyer led the Florida Gators to a 24-14 victory over the Oklahoma Sooners in the 2009 BSC National Championship, hosted by the Orange Bowl, securing his second national title in three years. His strategic mind and leadership further shone during the 2013 season, where he guided the Ohio State Buckeyes to another triumphant season and an Orange Bowl appearance. Over his storied career, Meyer built a legacy defined by three national championships and an overall record of 187-32. Known for his dynamic offensive schemes and ability to develop elite talent, Meyer consistently produced top-ranked teams at both Florida and Ohio State, leaving an indelible mark on college football.

VINCE WILFORK

DEFENSIVE TACKLE, UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI
ORANGE BOWL: 2004

Vince Wilfork was a key force on Miami’s defensive line in the 2004 Orange Bowl, playing a crucial role in the Hurricanes’ 16-14 win over Florida State. Wilfork’s impact was felt throughout the game as he helped limit FSU to just 206 total yards and applied constant pressure on quarterback Chris Rix. Wilfork’s presence in the trenches was essential in Miami’s ability to stifle the Seminoles’ offense, particularly in the second half when FSU was unable to cross midfield. His standout performance helped secure Miami’s 11-2 season and solidified his status as one of the nation’s top defensive players.
