NOTRE DAME & PENN STATE TO MEET IN THE 2025 COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF SEMIFINAL AT THE CAPITAL ONE ORANGE BOWL
MIAMI LAKES, Fla. (January 3, 2025) – Notre Dame and Penn State are set to meet in the 2025 College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Capital One Orange Bowl on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. ET at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.
This will mark the first time the Fighting Irish and the Nittany Lions have met at the Orange Bowl and the 20th time that Notre Dame and Penn State have met on the gridiron, dating back to 1913. The all-time series is tied 9-9-1. These two teams last met in a 2007 regular season matchup in State College, where the Nittany Lions won 31-10.
Notre Dame will be making its seventh Orange Bowl appearance (tied for sixth all-time) and its first since the 2013 BCS National Championship hosted by the Orange Bowl. The Fighting Irish are making their third CFP Semifinal appearance and first since the 2020-21 Semifinal game against Alabama in the Rose Bowl.
Penn State will be making its sixth Orange Bowl appearance and its first since 2006 when it defeated Florida State 26-23 in 3OT. The Nittany Lions now rank ninth all-time in most Orange Bowl appearances. This will be Penn State’s first CFP Semifinal appearance.
This year’s matchup will be the first Capital One Orange Bowl played under the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff format and the first CFP Semifinal game hosted by the Orange Bowl since the 2021 Playoff Semifinal at the Capital One Orange Bowl, which featured Georgia defeating Michigan 34-11.

Tickets are sold out via the Orange Bowl Ticket Office, but fans can still find official resale tickets on Ticketmaster.
Ticket holders for the 2025 College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Capital One Orange Bowl must use the Capital One Orange Bowl Mobile App, available for download on iOS and Android devices to manage tickets and parking to enter Hard Rock Stadium on game day. Fans looking to enjoy the festivities can enjoy the free Capital One Orange Bowl Pep Rally on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. ET on Lincoln Road in Miami Beach. Join the fun outside the Capital One Cafe on Miami Beach with performances from the team bands and cheerleaders, orange bowl giveaways, music, food, and more!
On game day, head to the Capital One Orange Bowl Fan Fest from 2:30 – 6:30 p.m. ET at Hard Rock Stadium. Free for all fans with a game ticket, the event offers entertainment, food, interactive games, and a live performance from country music star Lauren Alaina before the 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff.
